The story of Band begins with ADX. In early 2012, the founders of this little company met while serving as working members and volunteers at their shop facility. ADX is Portland’s Makerspace. A makerspace, a word which hasn’t fully entered our cultural lexicon, is a creative, DIY space where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. In libraries they often have 3D printers, software, electronics, craft and hardware supplies and tools, and more. After becoming friends, we founded Band as a creative studio in the summer of 2012 and built our first office above their kitchen.

We feel it’s important to note that the original brand identity development for ADX was completed by the incredibly talented OMFGCo. You can see their original portfolio entry here. Sometime in the early days of Band, we took over as the brand management and marketing direction team for ADX. Together, we began to build a symbiotic relationship that helped both startup companies over the following years.

From a number of website redesigns to creative print collateral production, event coordination and even a ton of custom fabrication, we worked with the ADX team on more projects than we can begin to list.

About ADX, a video produced by our friends at Megamouth.

Eventually, we took on full creative direction roles for the entire space. As Band continued to grow, we help the team find and hire the right recruits and interns to continually aide them in all of their creative needs, creating a few creative jobs for local artists in the process.

As we grow and ADX continues to build their community of thinkers and makers, we remain ever thankful for the relationships we fostered together.
